In 2022, the Virginia Geographic Information Network contracted with Surdex to capture planimetrics for various localities across Virginia. The City of Harrisonburg took part in this program and is where this building layer originated. Updates will be done on this layer until the next planimetric cycle in 2026, at which point this layer will be archived. Demolished buildings are not present in this feature layer. Elevation information stems from the 2020 USGS LIDAR collection and captured data present from 11/29/2020 to 1/12/2021. Caution must be taken for any building constructed after this date since it would not of been captured in the LIDAR collection. All elevation data is in meters and based off the NAVD88 vertical datum.<\/SPAN><\/P>

The workflow for creating layer:<\/SPAN><\/P>

  1. Create building layer from structure layer provided in the planimetrics.<\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI>

  2. Select for all Edit Types except \"Deleted\", which are buildings not present anymore since the last planimetric update. Then select for the following types: building, deck, smokestack, and water tower. Create new layer from this selection, this will be the new CityBuilding layer.<\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI>

  3. Remove any buildings further than 250 feet from the city boundary.<\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI>

  4. If there is a gap between the date the building data was created and the date this layer is made, add any newly constructed buildings. LAMA holds this information and site plans can be digitized to create them.<\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI>

  5.
