The Virginia Base Mapping Program (VBMP) update project is divided into three collection phases: In 2021, SURDEX acquired the eastern third of Virginia at 12-inch imagery resolution, with options for localities and other interested parties to upgrade the imagery resolution and purchase other optional products through the state contract. The central third of Virginia was acquired in 2022 with options for localities and other interested parties to upgrade the imagery resolution and purchase other optional products through the state contract, and the western third will be flown in 2023 with options for localities and other interested parties to upgrade the imagery resolution or purchase other optional products through the state contract. The orthoimagery base product is 12-inch resolution statewide with locality upgrades to 6-inch resolution tiles and 3-inch resolution tiles in various regions within the project area.
